Welcome. I’m Sierra.

Hey there, friend! My name is Sierra. I am a passionate gardener, trained cook, and blogger. I’m in complete LOVE with gardening, baking, homesteading, and all things food! So if that sounds like you too, we will be great friends!

I create the things I love most; delicious homemade meals and beautiful gardens. My blog Simply Sierra Rose is where I showcase these passions and share my favorite seasonal recipes, and bring you along my gardening journey in the suburbs of Minnesota.

I truly believe homegrown, home-cooked, and homemade is possible no matter where you live and what you have. My hope is that this can be a space where we can encourage each other to embrace the pace of a slower life, take time to delight in the beauty of nature, and always take time to gather around the table with friends and family for a good meal. I have so much I want to learn, explore, and dream and I want you to be a part of that!

So, sit, grab a cup of coffee and stay awhile. I’m so glad you’re here.

Why Gardening?

Gardening and cooking have a lot in common, both provide me with the same peace and joy away from the stress of everyday life. Both ground me and help me lead a more intentional life. Making a meal and tending to a garden instill the same sense of pride, knowing that as I care for it in return, it nourishes and cares for me too.

Why Substack?

I wanted a place to build an intentional community and connect off of social media. Honestly it overwhelms me to keep up with it all, so I thought the slower pace of a platform like this would be perfect. My desire for Substack is to be an extension of my blog, a more intimate newsletter experience filled with more nuanced conversations, personal stories and meaningful connection.

I wanted a place to invest in reader-supported rather than ad-supported content for those interested in supporting my work and to help ensure its continuation. So paid-newsletter subscribers will have access to our private community where they can comment, discuss and interact further.

Why should you subscribe to my newsletter and what can you expect?

You can expect three posts a week. Mondays we are in the kitchen, Wednesdays join me in the garden, and Fridays I'll share my current personal favorites, recommendations for restaurants, podcasts etc. and life thoughts. Subscribing to Beets & Bites is a way to connect to a close-knit community of people as passionate as you.

Stay up-to-date. You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.

Here’s the schedule:

Monday: We’re in the kitchen! - Cook with me throughout the seasons as I share garden-to-table recipes from the blog and go more in-depth with recipe stories, ingredient deep dives, shopping lists, menus, explore new cuisines and much more.

Wednesday: Join me in the garden - Garden alongside me during the growing season. Join me for gardening tasks from seed starting to planting, harvesting, and DIY projects. Get inspiration and encouragement to make something beautiful right where you are, with what you have.

Friday: Friday Favs - A collection of everything I’m currently loving from music to restaurants, cookbooks, thrifting, travel, and podcasts I can't stop listening to.

I feel so grateful to be able to combine all of my passions into one and share it with all of you. Thank you for your support. This is going to be exciting and soo delicious!
